Best Time to Visit the Great Glen Way

Scotland’s weather can be as adventurous as its trails! To get the most out of your hike, the best window tends to be April to October.

  • April–May: Ideal weather for hiking! Fewer midges (those infamous tiny flying culprits) and mild temperatures make this time very popular.
  • June–August: The Highlands sparkle in lush greenery, but summer also brings more hikers and, ahem, midges. Repellent will be your best friend.
  • September–October: Crisp air, stunning fall foliage, and fewer crowds offer a quieter, picturesque experience.

Whenever you choose to walk, the route promises spectacular views and unique vibes.

How Fit Do I Need to Be to Hike the Great Glen Way?

The Great Glen Way is perfect for hikers with a moderate level of fitness - no need to be an elite athlete, but it’s not ideal for complete beginners. The trail is well-maintained with manageable inclines, and you can break it into shorter sections to fit your pace.
