The Camino Francés, or French Way, is the most popular and well-known of the Camino routes. Starting in the foothills of the Pyrenees, this route navigates Northern Spain, passing through medieval towns, rolling vineyards, and lush green valleys. 

We recommend bikers start in Leon and biking through Ponferrada and Portomarin to complete the final 200-mile (300 km) section to Santiago de Compostela to earn your Compostela certificate. 

Whether you’re a seasoned biker or a beginner, the Camino Francés offers an unforgettable adventure. The route features a mix of dedicated trails and shared paths, with hand-selected accommodations along the way, which are accustomed to cyclists.  
 
Camino Portugués by Bike 
The Camino Portugués is a favorite among bikers seeking a quieter, less-traveled route. Starting in the vibrant city of Porto, Portugal, this path offers a blend of historic charm and natural beauty as it winds through Northern Portugal and Galicia, Spain. 

The full journey from Porto to Santiago spans 150 miles (240 km) and takes one week. Along the way, you’ll pedal through picturesque towns like Barcelos, cross the scenic River Minho into Spain, and explore Southern Galicia’s stunning landscapes. 
 
Camino Portugués Coastal Way by Bike 
For a fresh perspective on the Camino, the Coastal Way offers horizon-touching views of the Atlantic Ocean. Beginning in Porto, this alternative route follows the coastline, passing through charming fishing villages, sandy beaches, and lush forests. 

Biking the Coastal Camino Portugués is a scenic and peaceful experience, perfect for those who love ocean vistas and fresh sea air. The route eventually converges with the inland Camino Portugués, leading you to the Cathedral of Santiago for an unforgettable finale. 

What is the best time to bike the Camino de Santiago?

The best time to bike is in the spring (April–June) or fall (September–October) when temperatures are mild, and the trails are less crowded. 
 
How long does it take to bike the Camino de Santiago? 

The routes that we offer take a week to complete. From Leon in Spain if you're biking The Camino Frances or from Porto in Portugal if you're completing The Camino Portugues and likewise the The Camino Portugues Coastal Way.
 
Can you bike the Camino Portugués with a road bike?

Yes, the Camino Portugués is suitable for road bikes, as much of the route follows paved or well-maintained paths. However, some sections may be better suited for hybrid or gravel bikes. 
 
Do I need to bike the entire Camino to earn the Compostela certificate?

No, you only need to bike the final 200 km (125 miles) into Santiago to qualify for the Compostela. 
 
Can families or beginners cycle the Camino?

For families with children of 12yrs and above we recommend the Camino Portugues Coastal Way. If you have older children of 16yrs and above you can also choose The Camino Frances from Leon, or the standard Camino Portugues.
