Our founding tour, the West Highland Way is Scotland’s most famous long-distance walk, and a true Highland classic.  It winds north from Glasgow to Fort William, the Highland 'capital', and from there you are truly in the heart of the Highlands, free to hike the Great Glen Way & Loch Ness to Inverness, or maybe set out across the water for the ever-popular Skye Highs Short Break. You can also cover more ground in the Highlands on any one of our unique Rail & Hike Discovery tours, such as the Grand Tour of Scotland, or our West Highland Line: Rail & Hike, which traces the West Highland Way, offering up its best hikes and a world-class rail journey. Or perhaps you'll choose a slower Highland adventure, with built-in time to explore and set your own pace while Walking in the Scottish Highlands, savoring the incomparable Highland landscapes as well the heritage, history and warm Scottish hospitality of cozy pubs and lodgings. And of course, if you're up for a challenge, you can walk across Scotland itself, taking in coastal headlands and Highland moors on our Scottish Coast to Coast Walk.

  • The West Highland Way vs The Great Glen Way

A highland dilemma!  Which classic Scotland trail is the best?  Which one suits you?  Take a deeper dive into two of Scotland's best known long-distance hikes:

    • The 92 mile West Highland Way which cuts through the Highlands from the outskirts of Glasgow to the Highland outdoor capital of Fort William, gateway to the Isle of Skye and the Outer Hebrides.
    • The Great Glen Way, which stretches 79 miles from Fort William to Inverness, often hugging the shoreline of legendary Loch Ness, and giving keen hikers the option to take the high or the low road!

  • West Highland Way Trail Maintenance

We are the largest operator on the West Highland Way in the Scottish Highlands, with exceptional knowledge of its paths, people and places. With our local partnership, we donate $5 per customer to help support and maintain its 96 miles of paths as well as the bridges, gates, signage and drainage which are regularly hampered by the famously wet, Scottish weather, and the increasing severe weather events.

Each year we also volunteer to help maintain the trails, bringing us closer to the paths that are the very lifeblood of our business and heritage. Learn more about the importance of  trail maintenance.
